Sollipulli Volcano is one of the few volcanoes in Chile with an active glacier inside its own crater. The route starts in native forest near Melipeuco, gains elevation through volcanic ash, and finishes crossing the icy rim of the crater, with views over the lake that has formed inside it. We recommend layered warm clothing, trekking poles and good physical condition — this is our most demanding outing. The final approach requires a 4x4 vehicle, which is why it's always done with a guide.
